PETTY THEFTS
COMMENT BY MAGISTRATE TERM OF IMPRISONMENT "Nobody can leave a door open without these thieves coming in and taking anything they see about," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court on Thursday, when Senior-Detective Hall remarked that the theft of tools was very prevalent. The matter arose when Clarence Albert Butterfield, aged 32, was charged with stealing engineers' tools worth £2 last July and tools worth £1 10s in October. He pleaded not guilty. It was stated that the tools mentioned in the first charge were taken from an unlocked garage. Accused, who is at present serving a sentence in prison, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on the first charge and one month on the second, the terms to be cumulative with the present charge.
