DEATH AT NINETY
MR. J. B. SHEATH The death occurred yesterday of a well-known former member of the Auckland business community, Mr Joseph Bernard Sheath, at the ago of 90 years. Mr. Sheath was horn in Birmingham and was educated at Stonyhurst College, where the late Sir George Clifford was one of his schoolmates. Ho came to New Zealand about 1866 with his father, who had disposed of his interest in a leading Birmingham firm of gunmakers, Messrs. Sheath and Flowers, in order to take up sheepfarming. Father and son followed this occupation in North Canterbury for some time, but Mr. J. B. Sheath later abandoned it and became clerk to tho Rangiora Road Board and Government valuer for the district. Some 40 years ago he moved to Auckland and joined his brother-in-law, Mr. D. G. McDonnell, in tho. latter's business as secretary of a number of mining companies. Mr. Sheath was well known in mining and commercial circles for a long period. Mrs. Sheath died last December, and he is survived by four sons and two daughters. The interment will take' place in the Roman Catholic section of the Symonds Street cemetery thiß morning.
