FARMERS' AFFAIRS
MATANGI BRANCH OF UNION INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP [from OUR OWN" correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday Revived interest in the affairs of the Farmers' Union was in evidence at the annual meeting of the Matangi branch last evening. The president, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, presided over an attendance of 50. In his annual report, Mr. Martin said that during the year there had been an amalgamation of the Matangi, Tauwhare, and Tamahere branches. The district had been organ? ised by Mr. T. Jolly, and the membership had been increased to over 90. 11 Mr. Martin paid a tribute * to the excellent work done by the retiring secretary, Mr. J. M. Ranstead, who, over a period of many years, had kept the Matangi branch alive. He congratulated Mr. Ranstead on his appointment to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
Mr. Martin said he would be retiring from taking an active part in the affairs of the branch, but he assured the members that he would continue to be keenly interested in its welfare
The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Dr. H. E. Annett; secretary and treasurer, Mr. R.' Ranstead; delegates to the sub-provincial executive, Messrs. W. L. Ranstead and J. L. Hodgson; committee. Dr. Annett, Messrs. R. Ranstead, W. L. Ranstead, J. L. Hodgson, A. Ramsay. L. S. Skinner, T. Southon, T. Harper, W. Banks, A. Webster and A. Lovelock; auditor, Mr. K. Martin
