ADULT EDUCATION
STIMULATING INTEREST CONFERENCE TO BE HELD With the dual purpose of appropriately observing its coming-of-age and stimulating interest in tho possibilities of adult education, the Auckland Workers' Educational Association is arranging a special conference in the old Grammar School on Wednesday evening, April 22. , Three main topics are to be discussed. The director of the association, Mr. N. M. Richmond, will present "The Meaning of Adult Education"; Mr. J. Barr, city librarian, will address the gathering on "What Libraries Can Do for Adult Education," and Mr. W. H. Cooker, chairman of the association's tutorial class committee and member of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board, will speak on "What Broadcasting can do for Adult Education." While the association and other organisations are already doing useful work in connection with adult education, states the circular issued to interested parties, there would appear to be no limit to the possibilities which lie ahead of a really vigorous movement. All aspects of that question will be dealt with at the conference and other meetings during the winter. The first of these meetings is being arranged for next Saturday, when the Minister of Education, Hon. P. Fraser, will be the principal speaker. It is mentioned by the association that the Minister was a member of the first Wellington class, and the Prime Minister and the Hon. B. Martin, M.L.C., were included among those who attended the first Auckland classes in February, 1915.
