MODERATE NORTH WINDS t MILD CONDITIONS GENERALLY The weather report and forecast fojj New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —A very slight depression has crossed the southern half of the South Island to-day, but pressure is still high over the Dominion, an intense anticyclone being centred to the east. A fairly deep depression is located over south-east Australia and the south-west Tasman Sea. The indications are for moderate northerly winds, later freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas in New Zealand waters slight to moderate, but rising shortly south of Cape Egmont and in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate north-east to north winds and slight to moderate seas in • the northern portion; moderate but increasing north-west winds with rising seas in the southern portion. The weather is likely to be fine generally, with mild to warm temperatures; bel coming unsettled, however, in the western and southern portions of the South Island, and rain is probable shortly in those areas.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST MOSTLY FINE AND WARM The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate north, east to north winds. The weather is likely to be for the most part fine and warm, but there may be a few isolated showers in the far north. Seas slight to moderate. WEATHER SUMMARY ' Auckland. —The fine weather which' has prevailed since the beginning of the month continued during Thursday and yesterday. The wind was moderate to fresh north-east and the condition* were warm and sunny. The temperature at 4 p.m. yesterday was 68 degrees. The barometer was steady at 30.15uu during the 48 hours. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 38.151 m, Wellington.—Though cloudy at times, the wgather both on Thursday _ and yesterday was fine, and mild, with a light to moderate northerly breeze. The maximum temperature on Thursday was 68.5 degrees, and yesterday 68.1 degrees. Christchurch. —Thursday was fine and warm, with a light easterly breeze. The barometer fell slowly during the day. The sun was brilliant yesterday morning and it was very warm, hot a cold wind arose about mid-day and the sky was cloudy most of the afternoon, with the barometer rising slowly. Dunedin.—There was a cold breeze , from the north-east on Thursday and the barometer fell slightly. The sua shone during the afternoon, bat the temperature remained cold. The sky was overcast during yesterday, bnt' conditions generally were milder. He barometer rose all day and was steady at 30.22 last evening. There was pracno wind.''
