FINAL WOOL SALE
OFFERING AT NAPIER COARSE SORTS IN DEMAND [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] NAPIER, Wednesday Prices at the last wool sale of the 1935-36 New Zealand series, held in Napier this evening, were on a par with* those received at the previous Napier Bale last month. A notable easing, however, was in the values placed on Southdown, which eased up to a penny.
The total entry was 11,500 bales, and the quality of the wool offered was quite good, being ordinary topmaking sorts generally, with a large proportion of shabby sorts, and a few bright lines which were not available for the sales earlier in the season. There were several lamb entries which, generally speaking, were discoloured and rough.
Coarso wools were firm on the last Napier sale and there was a keen demand from all sections of the market. Compared with last sale, 54-56's were id easier, while 48-50's firmed up to Jd; 50's carding types remained firm, and 40-44's, which constituted the bulk of the offering, were fully firm on last sale.
The top price of the sale was 14d for a lino of 11 bales of half bred. Lamb's wool made 112 d, and good lines of.necks 9d.
Bradford were the principal operators, with Japan also participating freely, and the Continent taking lots suitable for its requirements. The market was well, met and passings were not frequent, 90 per cent of the offering. being cleared under the hammer, while additional lots were privately sold afterward.
One broker regarded the sale as being a wonderful end to the season, and he said buyers were buying as solidly as ever.
