NEWMARKET LIBRARY
NEW BUILDING URGED NEED FOR A REST ROOM Suggestions for the erection of a separate municipal building at Newmarket to provide a larger library and a women's rest room were discussed last night by the Newmarket Borough Council. The treasurer's annual report stated that revenue from the library was fall-, ing off. The debit balance had increased to £498 und a loss of about £IOO had to be mot. Mr. R. Philpot said it might be advisable for the council uto erect a new building on its vacant section in Broadway. It could be built to include a suitable rest room, which was a muchneeded facility. He suggested that the Finance Committee explore the possibilities of such a scheme when framing next year's estimates. Mr. J. Kay said he would sooner see an effort made to reduce rates before entering upon any further loan expenditure. "I cannot see any hope of a reduction this year, but we should aim at one for next year," said the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson. s , It was decided to refer the matter to the Financo Committee.
