7 yHE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE QUIET TONE EVIDENT There was a quiet tendency in the investment market on the Auckland / Stock Exchange yesterday and only a small volume of business was transacted, but the general tone was stronger. Although there was a fairly full inquiry for Government loans sellers ve re hesitant and no transfers were made. In the hanking section New Zealands again monopolised business. After opening at the current price of 46s 6d, 8 sale was made 6d higher at 475. The p mortgage issue also was stronger and advanced 9d to 28s. Inquiry for other issues was irregular. New Zealand Injurances were in demand at higher rates, and two sales resulted at 59s 6d, 8 gain of 4U}. In the first sale sineo February .Guarantee Corporations were secured 6d ■ cheaper at 5s 4d. The price for Auckland Gas was lifted Id to 265. Both Northern Steamship and Kauri Timber maintained current rates. Breweries again were prominent and (offers further improved. New Zcalands, after changing hands unaltered, moved up Id to 52s 4d. Farmers' Trading were again transferred at 9s sd, and more were obtainable at that figure. After recent declines New Zealand Newspapers sold at 3Ss 6d, a rise of Is on tho last sale at the beginning of the month. Woolworths (N.Z.) moved up to £5 7s 6d, an increase of 3s since last month.
