STRONGER POSITION
NEWMARKET FINANCES SAVING ON ESTIMATES An improved financial position was reported at a meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council last night, when the annual statement was submitted by the treasurer, Mr. H. Wilson. He stated thai} £12,187, Representing 92.3 per cent of the consolidated rates struck for the year, had been Collected. In addition outstanding rates amounting to £1355 had been received. "These figures are eminently satisfactory," stated the report, " and clearly indicate the improvement that has taken place in general economic conditions." In regard to the general account the debit balance of £3117 at the beginning of the year had been reduced' at March 31 to £2983, and after the transfer of £ISOO from the water supply account the debit balance was reduced to £1483. The budgetary position disclosed by the statement was a matter for satisfaction, continued the report. The receipts had exceeded the estimates by £1465, while the payments, in only exceeding estimates by £99, resulted in a saving of £1366 on the year.
