HARBOUR BRIDGE
STATE ACTION URGED PETITION TO BE CIRCULATED Reference was made by the Mayor of Birkenhead, Mr. G. Mills, at a meeting of the Borough Council last night to the recent decision of the Auckland City Council to stand aloof from the proposal to connect the northern and southern shores by a harbour bridge. Mr. Mills said ho had discussed the position with representative men, who were strongly convinced that it was necessary for the local bodies on the North Shore to act in the matter. It had been suggested that he should circulate a petitiop to all local authorities between the North Shore and the Far North requesting the Government to undertake the construction of tho harbour bridge as a national underApproval was given by the council to this course, and Mr. Mills saH he would have the petition drafted.
