GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

NEW ZEALAND TITLES SELECTION OF THE COURSE HAMILTON CLUB'S POSITION [from our own correspondent) HAMILTON, Tuesday The selection of the New Plymouth Golf Club's course as the venue of the New Zealand championships this year was referred to by Mr. J. F. Strang, president of the Hamilton Golf Club, to-day. The club had been hoping that its course at St. Andrew's would be chosen by the New Zealand Golf Council, said Mr. Strang, but if there was any feeling of disappointment at the council's decision, this was compensated for by the fact that a club which had not previously had its course selected for the principal Dominion events had been chosen. Mr. Strang said the New Plymouth Club had been to great pains to make its course suitable as a testing place for first-class golf, and the Hamilton club congratulated it upon its success. Moreover, added Mr. Strang, the reconstruction work undertaken at St. Andrew's some time ago had been scarcely finished, but it would be completed by the autumn of next year. As. in the ordinary course, the championships would be held in the North Island next year, the Hamilton Club hoped that St. Andrew's would then be selected as the venue for the Dominion fixtures.
