MAINLY FAIR AND MILD WIDESPREAD RAINS LATER The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An intense anti-cyclone is still centred east of New Zealand. A very slight depression has crossed the South Island to-day, while a deep one is situated over south-east Australia. Indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds, changing to southerly ' to-morrow in the south. Seas rough about Cook Strait and rising on the west coast of the South Island and in. Foveaux Strait, elsewhere slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea, moderate northerly winds and moderate seas, but later wind and sea increasing, with a change to southerly in the southern portion. Some scattered light rains at first, mainly in western districts, otherwise fair and mild, but dull, misty conditions gradually enveloping the Dominion and fairly widespread rains probable within the nest day on two.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR, BUT CLOUDY LATER The Government meteorologist issued to the Hebald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province:—Variable winds, northeasterlies prevailing and gradually freshening. The weather is likely to be fair and mild, but gradually clouding over. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine weather and a light northerly wind were again experienced yesterday, the day being sunny and warm. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 70 degrees. Wellington.—The morning was fine and muggy, but the afternoon was dull and threatening. A moderate to fresh north-westerly wind prevailed. The minimum temperature on Monday night was 56.1 degrees, and the maximum yesterday was 66 degrees. Christchurch.—The weather was sunny and warm, with a moderate north-east breeze. The maximum temperature was 73.3 degrees. The barometer was rising slowly and last evening the reading was 30.0 Sin. Dunedin.—There was no wind anS the sky remained overcast throughout the day.
