CHEMISTS AND CHAIN STORES
Sir,—l cannot help but be interested in the petitions of chemists to Parliament anent chain store chemists being established in New Zealand. I have no brief for chain stores and would gladly see . . a . ' a,v passed preventing their activities, but the chemists need to put their own house in order and not interfere so much in the business of other folk, particularly in the country towns. In my own town the leading chemist has very many lines that bring him into direct and serious competition with nearly all businesses in the community. In some towns a bookseller and stationer can scarcely live because of the activity in those lines by the leading chemists. Many a country photographer would be extremely glad'of- the business that the chemist does his best to monopolise. No one can interfere with the chemist business as he is protected by law. He can thus take shelter in big privileged state and snipe at all and sundry—which he does. Live axd Let Live.
