GRASS GRUBS DROWNED
One beneficial result of the recent floods in the Staveley district, Canterbury, is that most of the grass grubs have been drowned. Farmers say that after the heavy rains and floods in February an investigation showed about three-quarters of the grubs were drowned, and that later rains drowned more. In recent years the grass grub has destroyed much valuable pasture, but since the floods it has been possible to harrow without disturbing the sole, event where the grass grub had been working,
