NORTHCOTE BOROUGH
CONTRACT FOR ROAD WORK The Main Highways Board wrote to the Northcote Borough Council last night confirming the acceptance by tho council of the tender of Messrs. Matthews and Kirkby, of New Plymouth, at £2834 for tho reconstruction, grading and surface sealing of tho Onewa road section of the northern main highway through Northcote. No- action was taken regarding tho request from the Birkenhead Borough Council for reconsideration of tho proposal to form an association of the local bodies on the north shore. The Minister of Finance, tho Hon. W. Nash, regretted that ho could not recommend the Government to make a grant in the case of Northcote from the special item of £BOOO provided on tho Estimates in respect of unpaid rates on properties of which the Crown is mortgagee in possession. He said the position did not disclose extreme hardship, to which the special grant was intended to apply. Tho use of the municipal football ground was allocated on alternate Saturdays between the local Rugby and League clubs.
