NORTH AUCKLAND ROADS

GENERALLY IN FAIR ORDER IMPROVEMENTS BEING MADE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Tuesday In view of the heavy Easter motor traffic expected in North Auckland, Mr. J. Skow, the northern patral of the Automobile Association (Auckland), has issued tho following report for the guidance of motorists:— "In spito of tho continuous heavy flooding, tho main road surfaces are in very fair order, but there aro several sections of the highway that are rough and pot-holed, where tho water has washed a considerable amount of material off the road. Maintenance is to bo carried out in many cases, and it is- expected that tho graders will be used 011 tho surfaces, where at present uncomfortable travelling is experienced. "Throughout North Auckland many bridges liavo been weakened, and in such cases, and where the road is narrow, or visibility is bad, reduced speed is advised. "Many of tho secondary roads and routes that lead to the beaches have suffered, and in many cases slips have not been cleared, anil the surfaces aro rough. Tho Whangarei round trip, via tho Matapouri beaches, is in bad order. The Mitimiti Road is still blocked by a large slip. In many cases bad corners on the main routes have been cut back, allowing better visibility and wider road surfaces.

"Tho road from Opononi to Oinapere has been completed and metalled as far as the Omapere Beach, and for two and a-lialf miles this road offers special attractions, as the Hokianga Harbour is followed. It is possible to use the route in fine weather, but owing to the amount of reconstruction work that is going on, this section will not be properly formed until next season," tho report concludes. The weather is beautifully fine, and there is every indication that it will remain so.
