ROGILLA RETIRED PERSEVERANCE USELESS (Received March 18, 8.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 18 L. Haigli announced to-day that Pogilla has run his last race and is to be retired. Haigh, who leased Pogilla throughout his racing career, said the gelding had developed a round bone and it was useless persevering with his preparation. BILLY BOY AND SHY DEPARTURE FOR ADELAIDE The Trentham owner-trainer R. W. A. Lewis is satisfied with tlio weight that Billy Boy has been given for the Great Eastern Steeplechase at the Onkaparinga Easter Meeting, and he will leave en route to Adelaide on the Monowai to-morrow, taking both Billy Boy and Shy. Lewis states that Shy was not taken out of the hurdle event, as earlier reported, but that the chestnut is not likely to start over fences unless tho field is reduced to small dimensions, which does not seem a very probable happening. Billy Boy had a race on Monday at Trentham. Shy is also in good trim, and his racing on tlio other side will probably be in flat events, for which he is to bo nominated in due course. RICCARTON SCHOOLING STREAMLINE AND NOCTURNUS [by telegraph OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHTTRCH, Wednesday Interesting schooling was seen at Piccarton to-day. Streamline and Lvcidas jumped six hurdles well, the former especially giving an attractive display. Wrexford Bridge went pleasingly over four hurdles. Royal Limond and Nocturnus wero companions in a task over country. The latter jumped the first brush alone and was joined by Rovnl Limond at the sod wall. Both then negotiated eight fences. It was an excellent exhibition. Nocrturnus is a bold and fast jumper and it would appear as if he is now being tried at his right game. Royal Limond is still 011 the big side, but he ■ should be in goods order to re-enter tho steepleehasing arena.

Hounslow jumped two brush hurdles down tho straight and then accompanied Bun Tuck in a round of the coiintry, both doing their work pleasingly. Sororata, who has failed to regain her two-year-old form, has been retired from racing and sent to the Stonvhurst Stud. Universe, until lately trained by E. Shaw at New Brighton, is now under the charge of W. Jones, at Iticcarton. Kcmal Pasha had a relapse of lameness after a recent sprint at Ricearton and his owner has decided to give him a three months' spell. However, he will remain in tho charge of D. O'Connor. WORK AT NEW PLYMOUTH DAVISTOCK IN GREAT HEART [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday Horses for Awapuni worked on the New Plymouth tracks yesterday and they are* in good order. Tho Inglewood trainer, L. Butler, arrived by float with Windsoreen and Aotopectn. Tho latter did not hit out freely over five furlongs, in 1.4, but she bears a much improved appearance. Windsoreen moved smoothly over tho same distance in 1.3 J. She is not a good track worker and this effort was satisfactory. She is now out of hacks. This pair will bo taken to Awapuni either on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. Davistock, who is looking very well, went twice round on the plough at easy half-pace. His stable-mato, Ngaterahiri, was allotted a similar task. Ho has fined down of lato and is in good racing condition. Glen vane did good pace-work on the plough. Ho was taken to Hawera on Monday morning to school and again gave a fine display. W. Mantle has decided against taking Lady Kyra to Awapuni, but she will make her reappearance at Easter, eithor at Ellerslio or Feilding. She was let off with an easy task, but worked freely. Hinepuni ran five furlongs on the plough in 1.4 1-5. She did not appear to put her.usual dash into tho work.

KING'S WARRIOR BRILLIANT FINE DISPLAY OF SPEED Some idea of the speed shown by King's Warrior to win the Telegraph Handicap at Hutt Park recently, after making a very bad beginning, may bo gained from the fact that he took 39 3-5s to run tho first quarter and completed tho mile and a-quarter in 2.<14. The last mile was run in 2.4 2-5, a very line effort for Hutt Park, but it was in covering tho final quarter in 29 2-5s that ho really demontitrated his phenomenal turn of speed. King's Warrior, who is in his sixth year, commenced racing at thrco years for J. G. Robertson, for whom ho soon displayed winning form. After two races as a four-year-old ho was transferred to Smith's stable and by fine consistency has almost reached New Zealand Cup class, lie has won under all kinds of conditions on grass and dirt tracks, and his complete record is 22 starts for 13 wins, four seconds and a third, and his winnings £I9OO.
