CHARGE OF MURDER
s TWO MEN COMMITTED 3 DARLINGHURST SHOOTING i SYDNEY. Feb. 28 1 A statement alleged to have been 3 made by James Leigh ton Massey to the b effect that he had not intended to shoot 1 Mr. Norman Stead at Darlinghurst on 1 February 10, but only to scare him, 2 was tendered at the inquest on 1 deceased. The alleged statement said that Mr. ) Stead jumped at Massey, whose gun b went off during the struggle. ) Massey and Aubrey Potter were comf mitted for trial on a charge of murder. ) Mr. Norman Samuel Stead, aged 27, was shot in his father's garage at : Darlinghurst on the night of February ' 10. Detectives four days later arrested . Massey, aged 27, and Potter, aged 22. r They were charged in the Central Police Court with murder and remanded. At the time Mr. Stead was shot a sum of ' money was taken from the garage.
