*■». CLAIM BY AMERICA BRITAIN NOT TO DISPUTE j (Received February 28. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Feb. 27 Referring to the report that the United States has colonised and claimed Howland, Baker and Jarvis Islands, which have gathered a certain, importance in view of the projected transpacific air service, it is stated by the Foreign Office that "the title deeds of the islands were never very clear. "We thought we had a claim to them, but, if America has formallx annexed them and established her claim in international law, we shall not dispute ownership." The British Government once leased j the islands to an Australian company.
