SCHOLARSHIP WINNER
CHRISTCHURCH MUSICIAN Miss Joan McLeod, a young Christchurch musicinn, has received advice that she has been awarded a two-year scholarship, valued at £l5O n .year, tenablo at the Royal Academy of Music, London. Miss McLeod will leave for London in July to tako up the scholarship, which is tho first of its kind to have been awarded in New Zealand. Although only 19 years of ago, Miss McLood has had a distinguished musical career. She gained her A.T.C.L. when sha was 14 years of age and her L.T.C.L. when she was 15. In 1932 and 1933 she won the pianoforte championship at the Christchurch competitions, and also the Christchurch Competitions Society's scholarship, valued at £7 7s. In 1935 Miss McLeod gained her L.R.S.M. with 186 points out of a possible 200. She also passed the harmony examination with distinction and was granted a fellowship of the Trinity College of Music, London.
