THEATRICAL NOTES
COMING PRODUCTIONS THEATRE AND CONCERT HALL HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE February 19 to March 14.—Gilbert and Sullivan season. Royal Auckland Choir The Royal Auckland Choir had a large attendance at its first rehearsal for the year, which was held recently. The choir proposes to give three concerts in 1936, one in June, one in August and one in November. Gilbert and Sullivan Season The J. C. Williamson Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company will conclude its performance of " The Yeomen of the Guard " at His Majesty's Theatre this evening. On Monday and Tuesday evenings and on Wednesday afternoon " lolantlie " will be presented, while " The Mikado " will bo played for the remainder of the week. New Drama League Area The Rotorua Dramatic Festival Association is to be disbanded to permit the formation of a Rotorua area of the New Zealand branch of the British Drama League, according to a recent decision of the association. The move had been strongly recommended by Miss Elizabeth Blake, honorary adviser to the league, during a recent visit she made to Rotorua. Miss Blake suggested that the Rotorua area should extend to Whakatane and Opotiki and as far south as Taupo, with a northern boundary at Putaruru. Poem Set to Music Mr. Temple Bevan, of Auckland, has set an uncommon melody and accompaniment of high merit to Walter de la Mare's poem, " Nod," from " The Listeners." Mr. Bevan has handled this descriptive work with very careful judgment, and has made the most of every opportunity in the way of variety without stealing the necessary lullaby character. The accompaniment is in itself a very clever conception, the beauties of which are not all apparent on a first reading. The composition is to be highly commended.
