The Song of the Sea Pebbles
Big pebbles, small pebbles, flat and round, Listen you all to the merry sound Of the strong west ivind that brings the storm; Here comes a game to keep us warm! Big pebbles, small pebbles, red, black, white, Mixed in the jostling that keeps us bright, Let the crabs and weeds see how much we can stand; 'Tivill be ages yet 'ere we're worn to sand. Heave hoi All together! Hey! for the wild and stormy weather. Sivish! Crash! Are we not brave So to dance on the roaring wave? Now for the race: who goes the highest Up on the sunny beach gets the driest; And the prize for the one who can longest lie Is a longer look at the great blue sky! Another wave, with a noise like thunder, Breaks; and, laughing, we all go under, To rest in the hollows beneath the sea Till we come up again for another spree. —Gerald Bull
