TRAPPED ON CANAL BED
Trapped in the driving cabin of his overturned motor-lorry several feet under the. surface of the Leeds aiul Liverpool Canal, John Henry Lonsdale had nn amazing escape last month. His lorry skidded on the road near Chorley, crashed through a hedge, fell 30ft. down an embankment and landed upside down in the canal. Lonsdale tried to force the cabin door open, but it would not move. Gradually the water was beginning to flow into the enclosed cabin. Desperately he broke the window of the cab with his feet, got his legs through and, having worked his body out, struck out for the surface. He was cut and bruised about the head, face and body, and was taken to hospital suffering from shock.
