HOSPITAL AUXILIARY
Sir, —It was an unkindly thing for a member of the Auckland Hospital Board to infer that the hospital auxiliary was unnecessary. There has been a tendency lately to try and minimise the value of voluntary effort by social workers of wide experience and training in the interests of that deserving class, the sick poor. The recent decision of the board not to accede to the request of the lady members of the auxiliary to hold a fair in the hospital grounds, shows how far some of the members are out of touch with current events. Such fairs are held in many of the hospitals at Home. The ladies of the auxiliary in every district around and in the city are deserving of all the help and consideration a grateful people can bestow upon them. The recent protest of the president of the auxiliary at the remarks that the auxiliary was usurping the functions of the board, was timely. W. K. Howitt.
