HORSE EXHIBITS

FARM UTILITY ANIMALS THE RING COMPETITIONS MANY EXCELLENT EVENTS One of the main features of the horse section at the show was the display of farm utility horses, which showed that the place of the horse cn the farm is being fully appreciated in spito of modern developments. Although the entries were not very largo some excellent animals were exhibited.

The ring events, as usual, were an interesting feature, and in the afternoon a well-filled grandstand witnessed an interesting programme. The jumping events provided thrilling entertainment, tho majority of the horses responding well, assisted by a firm ground. In tho opinion of the judge, Mr. T. V. Morrin, of Hastings, the general standard was good, especially in the hack classes, although some of tho horses needed more schooling in the ring. Competition was keen. The children's events were particularly interesting, and were the buhjeet of very favourable comment * by the judge,*' Dr. A. McGregor Grant, who said the condition of the mounts was a credit to the young competitors. The riding was generally very good and bespoke careful training, while the care bestowed on the riders' equipment was a njatter for congratulation. Awards were as follows: LIGHT HORSES
