PUKEKOHE INTERESTS
NEED FOR DRAINAGE SCHEME POST OFFICE FACILITIES [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Friday Grave concern at the continued delay in installing a sewerage scheme in the closely-built area at Pukekohe was expressed at a meeting of the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce last evening. Members instanced cases in the business section of the town where conditions had become acute. It was explained that the Borough Council had been waiting for some time for the Government Loans Board's permission to take a poll of the ratepayers on a proposal to borrow the money to instal the scheme. The meeting decided to urge the council to approach the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, and the member for Franklin, Mr. A. C. A. Sexton, asking that, in view of the urgency of the matter, they should confer with the Loans Board with a view to having the necessary sanction granted without further delay. The congestion that takes place at times at the Pukekohe Post Office and the need for a separate lobby for money-order business was discussed. Mr. Sexton is to be asked to endeavour to have provision made for enlarging the building to give the desired facilities. The secretary was requested to ascertain from the Franklin County Council what progress was being made with the matter of realigning the Boni-bav-Pukekohe Road preparatory to tarsealing.
