TRADE BY BARTER
GERMANY AND AUSTRALIA HOPE OF NEW AGREEMENT BERLIN. Fob. 26 Following the rejection of private barter applications it is expected that a new agreement, which it is hoped will bo negotiated when the Consul-General, Herr Asmis, returns to Sydney* in March, will embrace: (1) The abolition of private barter business; (2) the opening of new foreign special accounts; (3) a change in the method of premium payments. It is expected that it will be made easier for German firms to import raw wool, but that accounts will be opened only if a promise is given that no premium will be paid to Australian purchasers of German goods, which previously ranged up to 20 per cent.
