TE KUITI BATHS
PROPOSAL TO RAISE LOAN [by telegbaph—own correspondent] TE KUITI, Thursday A motion urging the Te Kuiti Borough Council to conduct a poll of ratepayers on a proposal to raise £ISOO for the erection of swimming baths, voting to be held concurrently with polls on water and streets loans, was carried last evening at a meeting of citizens, convened by the council to consider the matter. Mr. K. W. Law suggested that the council should provide £IOOO and that £6OO should be raised by public effort, < but Mr. T. M. O'Connell and the president of the Te Kuiti Swimming Club i held that the baths should be a munici- . pal responsibility. If the baths had to wait' until £SOO was raised, Mr. Morton ■ considered they wculd never bo built. ■ On his mbtion it was decided to ask j the council to arrange for a poll on the < full £ISOO loan proposal.
