CARLAW PARK ALTERATIONS NIGHT MATCHES SUGGESTED The progress the game made last season and the prospects of an early start this season were discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Rugby League last evening, when all senior affiliated clubs were fully represented. The chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, extended a welcome to all delegates and expressed pleasure at the large attendance, which, he said, was an indication for a successful season. Mr. Campbell said the management committee welcomed any suggestion for the welfare of the came. Hepai'ding the coming season he stated that should the New Zealand team he successful against England, an invitation to visit Australia tb.is season was certain. The chairman made an appeal to all clubs to hold their annual meetings much earlier than usual. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the Auckland League during the first week in April. This was a departure from previous procedure, but it was intended to make an early playing start. The matter of extensive alterations to the playing area at Carlnw Park was mentioned by Mr. Campbell, who said the ground space had been extended by 12 feet in width, and the danger of players being thrown against the terrace fence had been greatly minimised. The turf had been top-dressed, and made more even than formerly. The question of gate 1 ercentages to clubs was mentioned by Mr. W. Swift, who appealed for increased consideration to winning senior teams. Mr. L. Bull asked whether the finances of the League warranted an increase in view of a heavy season abend. The chairman pave a reassuring answer, and flaid that, if the gate receipts continued to improve, there was np rea-son why "he percentage should not be raised to 20. ■ • . ' The prospect of playing a round of night, football early in April was supported by several delegates, and was referred to the incoming committee for favourable consideration. It was decided to pls,y a series of matches at Carlaw Park on Saturday. April 18. Ml senior clubs will be asked to nominate teams for this special rcund The chairman gave an indication that the season would probably commence on Saturday, May 2.
