TERROR IN INDIA
EARTHQUAKE PREDICTED PANIC AMONG INHABITANTS SLEEPING IN OPEN AIR (Received February 2(5, 1.15 a.m.) CALCUTTA. Feb. 25 Severe earth tremors in the past three weeks, coupled with forecasts by priests and astrologers of a wide-scale earthquake in the next fortnight, have caused a panic in towns and villages in north-eastern Bengal, Bihar and Assam. The inhabitants, firmly believing a big shock will come at night, are sleeping in the open air in spite of th© intense cold in the hilly districts. In Bihar, the scene of the great 1 earthquake of 1934, householders and traders have moved goods into th© open. Prayers are being offered in mosques and temples to avert a catastrophe. Water spouts and other land and water phenomena are believed by superstitious people to portend a disaster of unparalleled severity.
