CLOUDY TO OVERCAST rain in most districts The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —A depression has been crossing the North Island, its centre being- located north of the Bay of Plenty, while a rather intense anticyclone is advancing over the Tasman Sea. The indications are for variable winds at. first about Cook Strait and along the east coast, elsewhere southerly winds and southerlies soon becoming general, light to moderate, but increasing and reaching gale force in places about and north of Cook Strait. Seas rough on the east coast of the < North Island and rising therice southward to Bunks Peninsula and also north of Farewell Spit, elsewhere moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong southerly winds with moder-* ate to rather rough seas. The weather should be cloudy to overcast, with much mist, or fog, and rain in most districts. Further heavy falls, with some flooding,' # are probable in the Bay of Plenty and east coast districts of the North Island, and in places thunder. However, conditions are likely to be mainly fair on the west coast of the South Island. Temperatures are becoming cooler. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST UNSETTLED AND SQUALLY The Government meteorologist issued to the Hebald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province:—Strong southerly winds of gale force in places. The weather is likely to be unsettled, cloudy and squally, with further rain. Some" heavy falls are probable. Temperatures are becoming cooler. Seas rough. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—There was a continuation of overcast threatening weather yesterday, the wind being again light and variable. Continuous light rain was experienced during the early morning and misty conditions in the evening. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 73 degrees. The threatening weather was indicated by the barometer, which fell all day and registered 29.00 in. at 6 p.m. Afterwards it was steady. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.601(1. Midnight, Monday .. .. 29.85 in. Wellington.—Warm but overcast weather was experienced all day, with little wind. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees. Christchurch.—Yesterday morning was fine and sunny, but the sky clouded in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 68 degrees. The barometer fell slowly and registered 29.78 in. last evening. Dunedin. —The weather was fine yesterday morning with occasional sunshine and a light south-westerly breeze, but during the afternoon heavy rain set in. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees.
