ARTIFICIAL WOOL
THE ITALIAN PRODUCT MANY FAULTS REVEALED LONDON, Feb. 23 The Wool Industries Research Association's report on Italian milk wool states that its appearance is similar to Merino wool tops, except that there is no crimp, while the feel is harsher, says tho Bradford correspondent of the Associated Press. The microscope shows tho fundamental difference —that the new fibre does not possess scales like wool, turns yellow and weakens in alkali, swells lengthwise 7i per cent, compared with li per cent in wool when wet, and also lacks elasticity. It shows greater affinity with acid dyes than wool, and moreover does not possess the characteristics enabling it to compete with natural wool except in abnormal conditions. It may bo mixed with cotton and rayon to produce cheap cloth, for Italy in present economic circumstances. It is an interesting technical achievement, but does not bring nearer the molecular structure with all tho properties of wool.
