CHRISTCHURCH PARTIES

[by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH. Monday A large private dance, in honour of their second daughter, Miss Judith Firth, was given by Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Firth to-night. Miss Firth thus made her entry into adult society under very pleasant conditions. Miss Nora Firth, who returned a few weeks ago from a trip to Britain, helped her parents in the entertainment of their guests. Mrs. G. Leslie Rutherford and Miss Betty Rutherford, of Macdonald Downs, Hawarden, who have been spending some weeks at their seaside house at Sumner, entertained many city and country friends at a bridge party given at the United Service Hotel. Mrs. Rutherford wore a black satin frock and an ermine stole, and Miss Rutherford wore a rust red metalasse frock. Many pleasant parties have been given "in honour of Mrs. Shettle, of Eye, Suffolk, wife of Colonel F. B. Shettle, of the Indian Medical Service. She was formerly Miss Jean Chrystall, and with her two children arrived in Christchurch three months ago from England to visit her mother, Mrs. W. Chrystall, Colombo Street North. She will leave early next month for the King Country to visit her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Chrystall, before leaving for England by the Rangitiki. She and her sister entertained many friends at a live o'clock party given at Miss Chrystall's home. Other Christchurch residents who will leave for England by the Rangitiki are Mrs. Richard David and Miss Joan Maling.
