RAILWAY EXCURSION
week-end TRIP to ROTORUA' Perfect summer weather was enjoyed by over 200 Auckland people who travelled to Rotorua and back by special excursion train during the weekend. The train, which comprised nine first-class carriages, left Auckland shortly before midnight on Saturday and reached Rotorua at seven o'clock yesterday morning. Almost 10 hours were spent in 'Rotorua, the return journey being commenced at"4.40 p.m. Auckland was reached at 10.35 p.m. On arrival at Rotorua the passengers were taken to their various destma-" tions round the town by special free buses. After bathing in either the Ward or tho Blue Baths and breakfasting the majority set out on sight-seeing tours which had been arranged. Among the most popular were motor trips embracing Whakarewarowa, tho Fairy Sprftigs, Okcre Falls, Lake Tarawora and Tikitere. Those who remained near the town found much enjoyment in visiting such places as tho Domain Gardens, Ohinemutu and Whalcarewarewa. Some of the visitors wore fortunate enough to witness a spectacular display by Pohutu Geyser during the earlier part of the afternoon. The. excellent work of the Railway Department in furnishing full details of available attractions and in arranging comprehensive sight-seeing trips was favourably commented on by those travelling.
