WEEK-END PICNICS

NUMEROUS EXCURSIONS RESORTS NEAR AUCKLAND SPECIAL TRAINS ENGAGED Although there were a few intermittent heavy showers of rain during the week-end, fine weather generally oil Saturday and yesterday favoured a large number of firms and organisations which hold their annual picnics. All forms of transport were engaged and special trains, buses and fleets of launches and steamers took crowds of excursionists to the various resorts near Auckland. One of the largest gatherings was the annual picnic of the Amalgamated Society of .Railway Servants held at J.Vikekohe yesterday. There was an attendance of over 1000 people, and two special trains were engaged to take them to the picnic grounds. Two special trains were also engaged for the Hamilton Combined Friendly Societies' picnic. Over 700 people were brought from the AVaikato for this event, which was held at Motuihi. DAVID'S SUNDAY SCHOOL The annual picnic of St. David's main nnd branch Sunday schools took place at Eastern Beach on Saturday. About 200 children, with parents, teachers and other friends, made the journey, chiefly in buses, and found plenty of entertainment arranged for them. Most of the children enjoyed bathing, and in the afternoon a series of races wns keenly contested on the sands. The prizes were presented by the Rev, W. Bower Black.
