BIRKENHEAD DRAINAGE

LOAN POLL TO-MORROW The poll of the ratepayers of Birkenhead on a proposal to raise a loan of £28,000 for a sewerage scheme' is to be taken to-morrow. The scheme is estimated to cost £35,000, of which £7OOO is expected to be received from tho Unemployment Board as a subsidy on the cost of labour. Interest on the proposed loan is limited to 3b per cent, with an annual sinking fuijd of 2 per cent. Birkdale is excluded from the area proposed to be served. Tho Mayor of Birkenhead, Mr. G. Mills, has issued an appeal to the ratepayers to support tho proposal as part of tho Borough Council's scheme to bring the services of the borough up to date. It was mentioned by Mr. Mills that tho scheme had been designed to fit in with any major scheme of sewerage which may be introduced for the North Shore area at any future time.
