"ROSE OF ISRAEL"
A clever and entertaining study of the domestic life of middle-class. Jews in England is contained in the novel "Rose of Israel" by Kobald Knight. Rose, at the age of 33, is still unmarried, chiefly because she has no dowry. She suffers much mental torment and humiliation from her family because of her unmarried state and in desperation turns to a Gentile for friendship and love. The man is already married and the story of Rose and her lover is poignant and moving. It is in the description of tho final tragic events which affect Rose, her lover and her lover's dog, that Mr. Knight proves his outstanding ability as a narrator. "Rose of Israel' 1 by.
