FURTHER RAIN PROBABLE A TEMPORARY IMPROVEMENT The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —Pressure is still relatively low over and east of the North Island, while a slight anti-cyclone extends across the Tasman Sea on to southern New Zealand. Indications are for moderate and variable winds over the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere moderate to strong southerly to south-easterly prevailing. Seas rough south of Castle, point and in the Cook Strait area, elsewhere slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea moderate southeast to southerly winds; seas moderate. Weather fair to fine in western and far southern districts of the South Island; elsewhere still cloudy to overcast, with mist or fog in places. Further rain probable, with some scattered heavy falls in the central parts of the North Island. Conditions improving temporarily, however, to-morrow in most districts. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST CLOUDY AND SCATTERED RAIN The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate and variable winds. "Weather cloudy and, in places, misty, with scattered rains. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Cloudy and unsettled weather and a light northerly wind prevailed yesterday, heavy rain being experienced during the afternoon and light showers in the evening. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 70 degrees. The barometer rose .loin, during the 24 hours. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.851(1. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 29.70 in. Wellington.—There was a little sunshine in the early part of the afternoon, but during most of the day the weather was dull, with a moderate southerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 64 degrees. Christchurch. —The weather was overcast and dull in the morning, when there were Occasional light showers. However, there was an improvement in the afternoon. The barometer read 29.88 in. at o p.m. and had a falling tendency. Dunedin. —Heavy rain fell, the fall in the last 24 hours being the heaviest for several months, and amounting to 2.15 in.
