EMPIRE AIR MAILS
BRITAIN AND AUSTRALIA QUESTION OF CONTROL^' LONDON. Feb. 19 In connection with Britain's appeal for reconsideration by Australia of the Empiro air mail scheme, the British Government is willing to meet Australia on most points except unified control from London. It contends that the exercise of semi-independent control over portions of the route would minimise its effectiveness. The British communication, it is believed, also points out that the great range of the new flying boats renders them most valuable as defence auxiliaries. DOMINION'S POSITION EFFORT AT SETTLEMENT [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION]' WELLINGTON. Thursday Negotiations are proceeding between the New Zealand Government and the Commonwealth Government in an endeavour to reconcilo the position that has developed as the result of Australia's action in rejecting Imperial Airways air mail scheme, and although the Australian Government has agreed to reconsider the matter, it is not likely that final steps will be taken by either New Zealand or Australia until the representatives of the two countries have had an opportunity of conferring. The Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, said to-day that New Zealand was in close touch with the Australian Government on this and other matters of mutual interest, notably the question of subsidised shipping and the transtasinan air service, but he was not yet in a position to make any definite announcement as to the course of action that would be followed.
