LOGAN DERBY WINS

EVICUS GRAND CHAMPION NEW DERBY'S FAST MILE " PERTH. Feb. 20 The final of the inter-Dominion championship was held last night in fine weather. There was a record attendance, and f-oguji Derby (Tasmania) won the final, from Evicus (Tasmania), but Evicus, by recording the fastest time in four events, in which he was second, secured 20 points and was declared the grand champion. Logan Derby was next with 17 points. New Derby was favourite. Minton Ribbons broke at the start, and Chic set the pace, being followed by Nancywood, Logan Derby, Speedy Boy and New Derby. Entering the back straight Logan Derby drew up, to the leaders. New Derby broke and lost ground. With a round to go Chic was still leading, but Logan Derby soon went to the front, and won by six yards from Evicus, who was in a handy position throughout, and finished three yards ahead of Nancy wood. Then followed Lady Childewood, Speedy Boy, New Derby, Minton .Ribbons, Willowcliff and Chic. Time, 3.18. Mile rates: — 2.12, 2.11, 2.11*. The gold cup was handed to Mr. H. Rudd, owner of Evicus, by the Lord Mayor. In the Tasmanian Handicap, one mile and- a-half, Emilius Way, 48yds. behind, driven by F. Holmes, was favourite, and finished third. Eight started. New Derby and Evicus, paced by a galloper, attacked the flying mile record. New Derby was in front throughout, his time being 2.2}. HORSES FOR RUSSIA PURCHASES IN ENGLAND Major J. S. Courtauld has sold the stallion Cvclonic, by Hurry On from Volcanic, by Corcyra, to go to Russia. Cyclonic won nearly £II,OOO in stages and as a four-year-old defeated the Ascot Gold Cup winner Bosworth. to whom he was giving a year and 121b., by a short •head in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket. In addition to Cyclonic, the Russians have recently purchased the stallions Alcester and Diligence. Those are the best horses that have beqn sent to Russia since the Derby winners Aboyeur and Minoru wero acquired before the war.
