PROCESSING LUCERNE
SCHEME IN MARLBOROUGH It is understood that a proposal is on foot to establish near Blenheim an industry new to New Zealand, namely, t*he dehydration of lucerne and its manufacture into stock fodder. The scheme, it is gathered, is to establish a factory in a suitable locality. Ihe company will purchase fresh cut lucerne, which will be marketed in the form of compressed chaff or meal. Jt is claimed for the dehydration process that it preserves the full nutritive value of lucerne, much of which is sacrificed in the course of field drying. It is stated that the process has the approval of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and that a .Danish expert may visit the Dominion in connection with the establishment of the industry. It is of interest to mention hat the proposed plant would deal with from 8000 to 10,000 tons of green lucerne annually.
