STOCKS AND SHARES
THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE marked RISE IN DALGETY'S There was a quieter tone in the investment market yesterday and business on the Auckland Stock Exchange fell away sharply. The advance in 1 Australian hanks arul industrials was checked and some profit-taking was evident. Commercial Hanks lost the rise of the past two days, a ptircol be inn; socured 3d lower at 19s ]od. New South > "Wales were taken Is cheaper at £34 15s hut Unions added 6(1 in transfers' at £lO. lioth English, Scottish and Australian and Nationals of New Zealand wore marked down by holders, but there 'was little or no response from buyers. Levels for New Zealands closed fairly narrow, due chiefly • to a concession by sellers. Insurances Vere sparsely quoted and there was * nn easier tendency. The strong upward move in Daleetv's duriiii* the past two weeks was reflected in a sale 12s higher at £9 7s 6d. Prioes lor coal and gas shares showed minor variations. Kauri Timbers were again placed at '2-1 -s 9d and Rotoitis improved by He} on last year. .Among the Australian industrials > British Tobaccos and Colonial Sugars registered gains. After a late sale at"v3s 5d on the previous day, G. J. Coles were secured at "2s 9d, a full loss of I'd. Rising metal prices were responsible for further improvement in Electrolytic Zinc issues, supplies of which were not in sight. Farmers' Trading sold Id dearer at 8s 7d, but more were not taken at that price. Northern Roller Mills were again easier and New Zealand Drug also lost ground.
