WELCOME TO LARGE MAORI GATHERING [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WHAKATANE,. Wednesday The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, and Viscountess (. Galway were welcomed to the TTrewera country, by a large gathering of the Tuhoe tHbe at Waikirikiri, Ruatoki, yesterday afternoon. The Vice-Regal p&fty i« spending several days fishing rivers of the W r hakatane Valley, and was in the vicinity of Waikirikiri yesterday. Addresses were given by four chiefs,. Takarua, Taiakoa, Mika and Trainor, and then followed a haka pf welcome. A little daughter of Trainor, on behalf of the tribe, presented the Governor-General with a carved walking stick, and Viscountess Galway with a ptu piu. The party was also, entertained to afternoon tea at the Maori meeting house.
