ENGLISH TOUR

INDIAN CBICKETEBS NEW LEG-BEFORE RULE ADOPTION DECLINED By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received February 17, 6.35 p.m.) DELHI, Feb. 18 The Cricket Board of Control has selected the following team for the English tour: — The Maharaja Kumar of Vizianagram (captain), Major C. K. Nayudu, S. Wazir Ali, Mahommed Nissar, Amar Nath, V. Merchant, Bakajilani, Amir Ellahie, Mushtaquali, Mehrhom Jai, L. P. Jai, S. Bannerji, M. J. Gopalin, P. E. Palia, Hindlekar, S. M. Hussain and Ramaswami. Yuvraj Patiala also was selected but could not proceed to England for private reasons. Amar Singh, Jehan Girkhan and Dilawar Hussain will be available in England for test and other important matches. Mr. Brittain Jones will be manager of the team. The board considers that the new legbefore rule would be detrimental to the morale of the Indian players and to the gate receipts in England, and has sent a note to the Marylebone Club expressing its reluctant inability to comply with it during the tour. In regard to the proposal that Lord Tennyson's team should visit India in 1936-37, the board decided that such a tour would be more acceptable in 193738. BOARD'S DECISION SURPRISE IN ENGLAND TOUR RENDERED DOUBTFUL (Received February 17. 9.45 p.m.) LONDON. Feb. 17 The Daily Telegraph states that Viscount Cobham, president of the Marylebone Club, to-day expressed surprise and regret at the Indian Cricket Board's decision not to adopt the legbefore rule. " We shall have to consider the refusal," said Lord Cobham, "and it seems doubtful whether the tour can be arranged now." Mr. P. J. Warner said he was astonished at the Indian attitude. He expects the Marylebone Club will ask India to reconsider the decision.
