THE WHEAT FARMER

Sir, —It is said that the Lord helps those who help themselves, but that is not true in the case of the wheat farmer. Every other section of the fanning community in New Zealand has to compete in the world's markets with their products, and that they can more than hold their own can be seen by prices obtained for meat, butter, wool, etc., compared with other countries. Now, take the wheat grower. Although protected for years, there has been little or no improvement in either quality or quantity produced. When provicience sends him a bumper year there is no need to worry about marketing or granaries for storage. A kindly Government, at the expense of the balance of the community, dumps it out of the country to any old place at any old price. Why Worry.
