DEEP-SEA FISHING
MAYOR ISLAND WATERS LADY GALWAY AND PARTY EXCELLENT SPORT ENJOYED [BY TELEGRAPH— OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAURANGA, Sunday Excellent sport lias been experienced on the Mayor Island deep sea fisliing grounds during the past few days. Viscountess Gal way and party, fishing from the launch Naomi, caught six more swordfish, making a total of 10. Her Excellency has returned to Tauranga, where she was met by the Gov-ernor-General, Viscount Galway, who arrived by train from Auckland yesterday. Their Excellencies will later proceed to Wellington. Another successful fishing party was that comprising Mr. J. E. Cummings, of Matamata, Mr. N. L. Higginson, of Okoroire, Mr. W. Badley, of Auckland, and Mr. P. Jones, of Hamilton. From the launch Dauntless, they landed six swordfish and two niako sharks. Mr. Cummings caught two swordfish, one of which weighed 2721b. Mr. Higginson landed a swordfish of 2061b. and a mako of 3121b., and Mr. Badley two swordfish, one weighing 2691b. Mr. Jones catch was a swordfish. of 3011b. and a mako of 2801b. All the fish fought well and one caught by Mr. Badley broached 30 times. In one day the party counted 35 swordfish, many of which were touched with the bait, but refused to accept it. Dr. J. S. Stenhouse, fishing from his launch Dawn, caught several swordfish, while a Katikati party on the launch Mako also experienced success.
