MURDER CHARGE
TRIAL OF ERIC MAREO COMMENCEMENT TO-DAY The trial of Eric Mareo, aged 41, musician, on a charge of murder, will commence in the Supreme Court this morning before Mr. Justice Fair and a jury. Mareo was arrested on September 2, and charged that he murdered his wife, Thelma Clarice Marteo, on April 15 last year. The Crown will call about 30 witnesses, and the hearing is expected to last for two weeks or more. Sir. A. H. Johnstone, K.C., of Auckland, will be senior counsel for the Crown, in the absence of Mr. V. R. Meredith, Crown Prosecutor. With Mr. Johnstone will be Mr. V. N. Hubble, of the Crown Prosecutor's office. Mr. H. F. O'Leary, K.C., of Wellington, has been briefed as senior counsel for the defence, and will have with him Mr. T. Henry aitd Mr. K. C. Aekins, of Auckland.
