JAZZ ENTERTAINMENT
BRITISH RADIO PROPOSAL Behind a decision to enlargo Henry Hall's Dance Orchestra and extend its activities lies the British Broadcasting Corporation's determination to develop the world's finest form of jazz broadcasting entertainment, states a London report. In futuro Henry Hall will direct a complete troupe of entertainers, with dance music as a sort of sustaining background. The broadcasting of straightforward three-minute dance numbers will end on March 14, the Broadcasting Corporation's Dance Orchestra's birthday, when the reforms are to be introduced. Henry Hall states that his immediate aim is to enlargo tho band from 17 instrumentalists to 21 and to employ a minimum of six vocalists, three men and three women. At times tho hand will be even larger. " I have in hand pln,ns for a number of regular programme features in addition to my 'Henry Hall's Hour' with the Glee Club," ho said recently. " Material will be chosen for its production valuo as a distinct _ breakaway from tho established tradition of tho three-minute danco tune. Nevertheless, popular dance tunes, presented in an interesting fashion, will still be the backbono of my programmes."
