OBITUARY

MR. SAMUEL BEGG The death occurred at York, England, on January 7, of a former Napier resident, Mr. Samuel Begg, one of New Zealand's most talented black and white artists, states the Hawkc's Bay Herald. The late Mr. Begg, who was born in 1854, spent most of his boyhood in Hawke's Bay, being educated at the Napier Grammar School. At an early age ho showed exceptional talent and later went to England, where his work won him an appointment to tho staff of the Illustrated London News. He rose to the position of being official artist to Royalty and accompanied King George to India in that capacity when tho late King was Prince of Wales.

MR. W. R. BEAVER [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday The death has occurred in Hamilton of Mr."Walter Robert Beaver, at age of 70. Mr. Beaver was born in Auckland, and was educated at tho Auckland Grammar School. Ho was teaching at the Onehunga and Wellesley Street schools, but retired owing to ill-health and took up tho plumbing trade. During tho last 20 years ho had lived in Hamilton. Ho is survivod by his wife and three sons.
