PLUNKET SHIELD
LAST GAME OP SERIES CANTERBURY LEADS OTAGO DIFFERENCE OF ONE RUN [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION - ] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday The last game of the Plunket Shield series between Otago and Canterbury was commenced at Lancaster Park today. Otago won the toss and batted, but in spite of the fact that the Canterbury bowling did not appear difficult, the side was dismissed for the comparatively poor total of 173. Otago's score would have been even smaller had the Canterbury fieldsmen taken advantage of a large number of chances. Canterbury was also in sore straits on going to the wickets, but a fine innings by Cromb and a desperate last wicket stand, which realised 12 runs, enabled it to secure a first innings lead of one run. The play was dull for the most part, although, there was some excitement toward the finish of play, when the teams were fighting for a first innings advantage.
